The last week and a half has been CRAZY! Let me start out by saying everyone is fine and healthy...our strength has just been tested a few times.
We were contacted by a friend who was looking to re-home a 1 year old puppy named Eddie. We had been seriously considering a new puppy in the next few months so we were interested in learning more about him. Eddie came from a home with children and is both obedience and potty trained (can you tell I have a toddler), he is a soft coated wheaten terrier. We had been looking at the Airedale Terrier breed which is similar to the Wheaten in that they do not shed and have low allergens. The biggest difference is that the Wheatens are a little bit smaller and have a cream coat, the Airedales are brown and black. Another important factor for us was obedience and training. As many of my friends know, Derek is a Type I diabetic and we have been looking into the DAD (Diabetic Alert Dog) training program. After we met Eddie at the breeders home we were IN LOVE! Seriously, he is the most fluffiest, lovable boy out there. He is well behaved, TRAINED and he LOVES Alice.
We brought him home last Saturday and met with a trainer in the area. She has agreed to work with him on scent training and believes he will do well with it. This is encouraging and comes at an interesting time.
On to the other caoticness (I know it isn't a real word) that is life these days...Derek and his diabetes! Well what seemed to start out as a normal Saturday turned into a below 40 glucose reading (average glucose is about 104-125)...after a pb&j sandwich, two poptarts, two glasses of OJ and a few slices of pizza he finally got a reading of 42...YIKES...it of course continued to go up as the carbs broke down and by dinner time he was reading above 500...needless to say it was a long day and we were dealing with the side effects (read "crabbiness") of lows and highs all weekend.
Things are back to normal (or at least I hope). I am fighting off a cold but staying on track. I feel great, but haven't gotten on the scale. Its just been busy and I will admit I have been hitting the snooze button a little more often lately.
I will try and get a weigh-in tomorrow and post about my fitness plan for October!
I love the newest baby addition to your family. I especially love the pic of both of your dogs and that one looks like a toy and the other a statue! Today marks week 1 for me and I weighed in with a 6 lb loss. I think this blog is couragous and appreciate your honesty. Love you all, Mia
